ADULT ACNE TREATMENTS...DON'T USE THE KID STUFF

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

cording to many sources, adult acne treatments are different than teenage acne. The problem is the same, but sometimes compared to teenagers' problems, adults have different degrees of the problem. That is why in SOME situations, it is good to use a different technique to treat yourself.

It is important to pick a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to wash the affected areas. Treatment cleansers can be found at any drug store or pharmacy.

You must exfoliate the pores with salicylic acid to clear out the pores but be careful not to overdo it. Doing this too much can damage your skin, so it is preferable to do this about 2-3 times a week tops.

Many systems that you can purchase have done wonders to clear up acne in adults. An example would be Proactiv, which you can purchase for $40 dollars. It is a 3 step kit to acne treatment and has worked miracles on many who have tried it out. Many people highly recommend this product, and they have an advertising campaign featuring many celebrities who have used Proactiv for their skin problems.

There is also a new device out called Zeno Acne Clearing Device, and it is supposed to be an invention that clears up spots. This product doesn't fix blackheads or cystic acne, but can kill off ordinary pimples with ease. This machine is similar to an iPod in appearance, but it's function is to drive heat to the pimple. The heat is what kills the bacteria in the pimple and it increases blood flow for healing. The success rate on this machine is so good that about90% of pimples it was used on disappeared within 24 hours of use.

WHAT ARE SOME CAUSES OF ADULT ACNE?

If you think that your acne disappeared in your teenage years only to find it springing back up in your adult years, have no fear. Adult acne is a very prevalent problem in America and the World, and you are not alone by far. One out of 5 women between 25 and 40 will suffer from this dilemma.

But What causes adult acne?

Usually adult acne is caused by blackheads initially, which are pores clogged with dead skin cells. The dead skin cells mix with bacteria and when exposed to air, turn a dark blackish color. Dirty hands can spread blackheads and when they become inflamed, they can turn into red pimples. Pimples that become infected turn into a white pustule and breaking these pustules with your hands can cause scarring.

There are many other factors besides skin that can cause adult acne. Some of these are birth control pills, stress, low quality cosmetics, and stress. Amazingly, stress causes oil glands to act up. Bad cosmetics lets your pores start growing some nasty bacteria. Hormones affect sebaceous glands and how they react. Birth control pills can cause breakouts because of androgen.

ADULT ACNE TREATMENT CAN INVOLVE HORMONES

People don't quite understand the cause of adult acne, and it's up for debate. Many people believe that it's dirty skin, greasy foods, diets, genetics, etc. A commonly held belief is that zits are caused by fluctuations in hormones released by the body. Adult acne, just like the adolscent form, can be potentially caused by hormonal imbalance as well. In order to start treatment of your pimples, you might want to go to the doctor's and get your hormones checked.

Treating outbreaks are the same, whether it's for adults or children and teens. Using these same techniques, you can combat your acne whether it is mild or severe. A very common way to treat acne is the use of benzoyl peroxide, a thick pasty ointment that is applied to the skin as an antibiotic. This is the standard treatment for adult acne and many people have seen very positive results. Simply put, the benzoyl peroxide kills the germs on the surface of the skin and allows for a healing process to take place where the lesions were forming. You can find this simple treatment at any pharmacy or drug store and it is rather inexpensive. I suggest this treatment for minor breakouts.

ADULT ACNE...WHO IT AFFECTS

Adult Acne affects many people worldwide at some point in peoples lives. There are actual statistics put out by researchers who wanted to see some estimate of people suffering from adult acne. Just imagine some adults that you know; it is not out of the question to think they've had mild cases of adult acne at some point in their lives, possibly a zit or two.

Of all men, 25% suffer from adult acne at some point in their lifetime. For women, about 50% of them experience the same problem in their lifetime, a far larger amount than men.

People who suffer from outbreaks in their late twenties, thirties, forties, or beyond, and who have the same symptoms as teenagers or adolscents who have the same problems are characterized as having adult acne since pimples and zits usually disappear in the early to mid twenties.

Adult acne can cause the same pressure, social anxiety, inferiority complex, and various problems that younger people face when they have this infliction.

CHILDHOOD AND ADULT ACNE

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Acne affects almost 100% of the people on planet Earth, but it can happen at different times and can go away spontaneously at different times depending on the person. If you ask anyone, they're most likely going to say they had some form of pimples or zits in their life.

Many people suffer from childhood acne, where their acne first shows up around ages 10-13. This is during adolescence and can affect a child's psychology of growing up because appearances and reputations are of utmost importance in the junior high/high school years. Normally, acne goes away on it's own when a person reaches their twenties.

However, there is a problem of adult acne, which plagues adults since their acne never went away. People suffer from acne in their late twenties, thirties, or beyond. Adult acne proves that this isn't a "teenager" problem like many perceive it to be.

Treatments are available for people of all ages in case their acne outbreaks occur and they suffer from adult acne.

Here is some terminology to familiarize yourself with to learn about the various types of acne. If you have an acne problem, you can possibly identify the type of problem with this list.

Lesions are changes in the physical nature of your tissue that is caused by a problem from disease or injury. Lesions can occur internally or externally on the surface of your body. Acne is capable of causing external lesions on your body in affected areas.

Sebaceous glands cause a disease process that can result in lesions, which is a basic description of what acne is.

Comedones (comedo) is the technical term for blackheads and whiteheads, which most people suffer from at one point.

Nodules are the proper term for cysts, which pimples can form if it is in a severe form.

Blackheads and whiteheads, comedones, are formed when a sebaceous follicle becomes clogged with sebum, which is dead cells, hair follicle, and bacteria. Blackheads and whiteheads differ in appearance only by size of opening of the pore. You should never try to remove or squeeze out blackheads and whiteheads unless it is done so by a dermatologist. Squeezing these out of your skin can result in inflamed tissue which can get infected by bacteria.

A papule is a small lesion that is about 5 mm or less on the surface of the skin that appears slightly elevated. They can be invisible but have a sandpaper type feel when together in large groups.

A pustule is dome shaped on the surface of the skin that contains pus inside of it. The pus is composed of white blood cells, bacteria, and dead skin cells. They usually have a hair follicle center if they infect a sebaceous gland. If they heal without turning into a cyst, they do not leave a scar.

A macule is a temporary red blotch or spot left by a healing lesion. They are usually characterized as having a well defined border with a red or pink color. A large number of macules can appear inflamed. Typically when people have a number of these on their face, it appears inflamed and is easily recognizable.

Nodules are solid, dome shaped lesions on the surface of the skin similar to a papule, but are much more irritating because they reach deeper layers of skin. These lesions can cause scarring and tissue damage. This type of pimple is very painful and doesn't respond very well to treatments.

Cysts are sac like formations in the skin that contain liquid or a semi liquid material. This liquid/semi liquid has white blood cells, dead skin cells, bacteria and other components. Cysts can extend deeply into skin and be extremely painful. These lesions can also result in scarring.

Now you know a few terms of acne and the different kinds, you can identify different problems you or a your loved ones may face when it comes to acne. There are many treatments available on the market and there are many new treatments being developed every day.

WHAT IS ACNE? HOW DOES IT WORK?

Acne is a problem that plagues practically everyone on the planet at one point in their life. Even people who are perceived to have amazing skin still suffer from blackheads, whiteheads, and occasional pimples or zits from time to time. Acne varies in severity and can be extremely light to extremely severe.

Acne can cause damage to a person physically and psychologically, sometimes simultaneously. Severe acne causes deep scarring and tissue damage that is usually irreversable. Moderate acne can cause scarring but to a smaller degree. Light acne can usually cause blemishes that fade over time.

So what is acne exactly? To sum it up, it's basically clogged pores. These pores can be deep clogs or minor clogs. Cystic acne is large painful acne and is deep in the skin. The alternative to this is blackheads and whiteheads which aren't nearly as deep.

A more complicated explanation of acne involves a greasy clog from the sebaceous gland which plugs up the hole for the hair follicle. Larger holes form blackheads and smaller holes turn into whiteheads. Cysts are swollen glands that are extremely painful and inflamed.
